Volunteer work refugees Lesvos

Dear, family, friends and everyone else,

We have made a special and important decision.
A decision that feels really good, but also a decision which you actually had hoped that in today's world would no longer be needed.
On April 26th, we will leave for 3 months to Lesvos to work as volunteers for the organisation Movement on the Ground to go and help refugees.

The refugee crisis is not in the daily news anymore. But everyday men, women, children and families from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Eritrea and more, are still trying to cross to Europe for a life without war, threats, hunger and fear.

Refugees arrive on the Greek island of Lesvos in small boats, traumatised and in bad shape.

We've all seen the news and photos many times. These are terrible images and it's a confronting thought to realise the desperate situation these people are in, in search of safety, food and shelter.

We are all deeply touched by these photos and stories in this ongoing refugee crisis.
On arrival, so many of these refugees are depending on organisations such as Movement on the Ground (FB page here) and their volunteers.

Because of overcrowding in the first campus, volunteers and organisations are currently working really hard to set up a new, second camp.
During the 3 months that we are there, we will  - among other things  - help to set up this new refugee campus and start up community activities.

For us, this is a fantastic and a special opportunity and obviously we would like to do as much as possible in the period that we are there.

Rianne's birthday is coming up (April 30th). Sanne’s birthday is a bit later this year (
November 13th). However, we would like to ask you for our birthday present already.
We don’t need presents ourselves, because we realise we already have everything, so we would like to ask you for a donation. With this money we will: buy gifts for kids on their birthday (crayons, stuffed animals, toys), organise activities in the campus, pay for meals during our stay and contribute to tents and light in the campus.

We cannot imagine a more beautiful gift than that and it would be great if you would help us with that!
You can add your name, with ' congratulations! ' or anonymous if you prefer that; we are happy either way. We will try to keep you informed about the work we do and are extremely happy with every donation. Even the smallest donation is much appreciated by us!

Thank you!

Warm regards,

Sanne and Rianne

P.S. Sharing is caring!
